The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has revoked the suspensions of Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior wrestler Neha Sangwan, allowing them to return to national and international competitions. This decision removes a rare situation in Indian sports where a top Olympic wrestler was barred from competing due to indiscipline.
WFI Lifts Suspensions on Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan After Weight Rule Violations
Why Were They Suspended?
Aman Sehrawat received a one-year suspension starting 23 September 2025, after he failed to make weight at the World Championships in Zagreb, missing the 57kg limit by 1.7kg.
Neha Sangwan, a U20 World Championships bronze medallist, had a two-year suspension after she exceeded the 59kg weight limit by 700g at the Junior Worlds in Samokov.
Both wrestlers responded to show-cause notices, accepted their mistakes, and promised better weight management.
WFI Committee’s Lenient Decision
The WFI disciplinary committee reviewed their cases on 13 November 2025. It took a lenient view because:
- Both wrestlers have strong international achievements
- Violations were considered first-time offences
- They submitted written explanations acknowledging the lapse
WFI President Sanjay Kumar Singh then ordered the immediate withdrawal of the suspensions while reminding athletes to strictly follow weight and discipline rules.
What This Means for Their Careers
With bans lifted, both wrestlers can now:
✔ Compete in domestic and international events
✔ Enter the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) auction pool
✔ Stay eligible for selection in major events, including the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya (for Aman)
The federation also issued a warning: any repeat violation will lead to tougher action.
