1. Advanced Technology and Cost Efficiency
The GBRC uses long-read sequencing platforms that can analyse up to 10,000 DNA base pairs. Initially used during the Covid-19 pandemic, these machines now power broader genetic studies.
Through local investments, sequencing costs have reduced from ₹85,000 to ₹60,000 per sample, making large-scale genomic research feasible.
2. Data Collection and Parental Studies
Samples from different tribal groups, including parent–child trios, will help scientists trace genetic transmission patterns.
The data will lead to DNA-based test kits costing around ₹1,000–₹1,500, far cheaper than traditional genome sequencing that costs up to ₹1 lakh.
