Mumbai has achieved a big milestone in public transportation with the opening of the Mandale Metro Depot for Metro Line 2B. This elevated depot is officially Asia’s largest metro depot. Advanced Track and Stabling System
The depot has 29 km of internal tracks for smooth movement of trains.
A double-decker layout allows more trains to be parked in limited space.
It has three elevated viaducts that help fast circulation of trains, making stabling, cleaning, and daily operations faster and more efficient.
Inspection and Maintenance Tech
The depot supports routine checkups and major repairs with modern facilities such as:
- 10 maintenance lines
- 6 inspection tracks
- 4 bogie turntables
- Heavy-duty storage systems for equipment
These systems allow technicians to repair metro coaches without delaying daily train services.
Smart Systems and Environment Measures
The depot has:
✔ Automated daily and deep cleaning systems with wash plants
✔ Pit wheel lathe for wheel profiling
✔ A G+3 control center for 24/7 monitoring
✔ 175 KLD water recycling system
✔ Dust-control and underground utility systems
The Mandale–Diamond Garden section has already begun trial runs. The entire Metro Line 2B corridor is expected to start operations between mid-2026 and late-2027.
