MSMEs Driving the Defence Manufacturing Growth

Over 40 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will participate in the conclave, displaying a wide range of defence-related products and technologies. Coimbatore district already hosts more than 100 MSMEs engaged in defence manufacturing. These enterprises specialise in precision engineering, ground support equipment, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) — making Coimbatore a fast-growing defence hub in South India.

Policy Discussions and Industry Collaboration

Codissia President M. Karthikeyan stated that the conclave will include expert-led discussions on:

  • Defence procurement and indigenisation
  • Policy frameworks and quality standards
  • Collaboration between MSMEs, startups, and defence organisations

These sessions aim to strengthen coordination between industry leaders, policymakers, and defence agencies, helping MSMEs align with India’s long-term defence strategy.

Innovation and Technological Capability

CDIIC CEO Vinodh Kumar highlighted the contributions of local industries to national defence projects. Notably:

  • Four Coimbatore firms are producing ground support equipment for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) Advanced Light Combat Helicopters.
  • A Coimbatore company has developed an indigenous attack UAV, currently under Indian Air Force (IAF) testing.
  • Another local firm has supplied operational drones to the IAF.

These achievements underscore Coimbatore’s growing role in defence technology and innovation.

Building Coimbatore as a Defence Hub

The conclave represents Coimbatore’s vision to become a leading defence manufacturing hub within five years. By bringing together innovators, investors, and policymakers, the event aims to strengthen the defence industrial base and accelerate India’s progress toward technological self-reliance and global competitiveness in the defence sector.
