Rising Concern: Violence Against Women

Minister Lalrinpuii revealed that violence against women in Mizoram has risen sharply—from 3,094 cases during 2022–2023 to 12,750 by February 2025. She stressed the need for urgent preventive action, stating that empowering women strengthens families and drives social progress. She also called for better education, awareness campaigns, and institutional collaboration to reduce gender-based violence and inequality.

Collaborative Initiative

The GBV Solve Project is a joint initiative between Aparajita and J-PAL South Asia, implemented in Mizoram by the Mission Foundation Movement (MFM). The project focuses on:

  • Protecting women and children
  • Promoting gender equality
  • Offering counselling and community-based awareness
  • Training programmes to prevent violence

This partnership aims to build a safer and more inclusive environment for all citizens.

Education and Skill Development Focus

The initiative also emphasises education for both boys and girls to promote equality from an early age. Women will receive skill training and livelihood opportunities to help them become financially independent. By linking economic empowerment with social safety, the project aims for long-term, sustainable change.

Expansion and National Goals

The GBV Solve Project is part of a larger national campaign. Over 470 proposals were submitted across India, with six organisations—including MFM—chosen for implementation.
In Mizoram, the project will begin in Aizawl district, working with the Women and Child Development Department. It aims to develop a replicable model for other states, combining research, community involvement, and government partnership to end gender-based violence.
